the Carthusians.

My interest in the Carthusians, other orders and history in
general dates back to some 20 years ago. I tried to learn all I
could about the only existing Charter house in Slovenia, in
Pleterje, which was at that time the only house of this order in
the former communist world. There are ruins of three other houses
of the Carthusian order in Slovenia. They date back to the 13.
century. I then made a first visit to Pleterje, when it was still
possible to see parts of the monastery inside. One of the monks,
seeing my interest in the order, even proposed me to stay. Since
then, I visit Pleterje occasionally, merely as a tourist, but I
try to read here and there something related to the Carthusians.
I decided to visit all the houses of the order in the world, but
so far I succeeded to see Marienau in Germany, Grande Chartreuse
in France and Cartuja de la Defension in Spain. I was very close
to Evora in Portugal but somehow missed it. I am glad to have
spoken to a monk of the spanish house at Jerez de la Frontera. He
even knew something about Pleterje. As I am interested in the
history of Slovenia I recently wrote a book about misterious
historical places in Slovenia. One chapter briefly relates to one
of the former three houses of the order, Bistra, 25 km from
Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, in the so called "Vallis
Iocunda" .
I do not have a vocation, but I will be pleased to discuss about
Carthusins with other people interested therein.
Best regards
Matjaz
